“What music will you play at my event?”

This is a common question we get asked every day.

A good musical entertainer (DJ) should possess the necessary skills to be able to “read the crowd. In simple terms “reading the crowd” means having the ability or learning from the guests at the event what type of music they want to hear and dance to at that event. Reading the crowd is not a skill that can be learned in days or weeks. It takes many years of experience and playing at many functions before you can master the art.

To assist us in determining ahead of time what music will work at your event, we have in place a system that allows a client to login and create a playlist of 10 of their favorite songs. You also have the ability to provide a list of songs that you do not want played at your event. Using these lists we get a general idea of what type of music you and your guests expect to hear at the event. While we have found this to be a proven method, it is not foolproof. There are the odd occasions where the client may have different tastes in music then their guests. In these rare instances, our entertainers possess the ability to make the necessary adjustments to keep the dancers on the dance floor. This does not mean that we will not play your songs that you have provided on the list.

Keep in mind that if your taste in music varies greatly from your family and friends, it might have a negative impact on your event. The negative impacts that it might have are as follows:

    1. Guests might get bored.

  1.  Guests might get upset with the DJ for not playing music they like.
  2. Guests might leave early.

When deciding on what music to play at your event we recommend that you consider not only your musical tastes but also the musical taste of your family and friends. For instance, I might like Top 40 dance music but none of my family or friends at the event like it; I will be the only one dancing most of the time. If my family and friends love House music or 70’s Disco and the dance floor is packed, that is what the DJ should probably play more of to make your event as fun as possible for everyone in attendance. This doesn’t mean that the DJ will not play what you requested but it might get played less than what we were expecting since the guests are dancing more to other types of music.

At Dance All Night DJs, we play everything from today’s dance music, classics, to Latin music. We want to know what you, the client enjoy dancing to. We always try to the best of our ability to please every client.

Tell us what you like and we will (as time permits) make it happen.

After all, we want you to DANCE ALL NIGHT!
